School Visit to Bwlchywernen Farm
We all enjoyed our visit to Bwlchywernen Farm.
![]() |
Here we all are, almost raring to go. We were given maps so that we could follow the route along the perimeter of the farm.
Miss Lorenz checks that the troops are still on the path. A few pupils seem to have their attention taken by the nature surrounding us. Who's been camouflaged by that fern? |
| Oh miss, what have you done with my welly? Now how am I going to keep my lovely new socks clean? |
![]() |
How will the rest of us manage? Let's see how many other wellies go off on their own walk leaving us stranded. We'll have to be extra careful as we climb over the style. |

Several pupils were enthralled by the reeds growing in some of the wetter fields. Would these make a bouquet for mum? Or perhaps, I could use them to make some candles. Decisions, decisions. |
| We couldn't resist touching and even tasting some of the fruits along the route. Luckily we had reference sheets so that we could check whether or not the fruits were suitable and edible to young humans. |

As we were learning
about life on the farm we were interested in knowing why someone had dug
trenches along the edges of some of the fields. Do you know why? The pipe
gives a good clue.
This photograph shows the opening of one of the many badger tunnels that we passed on the way. Sadly, we saw no badgers - perhaps a late night visit in very quiet company would be successful.
A little rest at the top of the hill before lunch. |
| During the afternoon we went on a tour of the farmyard. As you can see we visited the milking parlour. |
So, what happened to all this milk? Well after a short time in the cooler, it is ready for the production section of the farm. |
| Let's see if you can follow the steps for making this dairy product and do you know what is being made? |

| Well, were you right? Did you expect to see Hafod cheese, ready for consumption? We were all offered a taste and all those who accepted a piece were impressed. So we'll have to keep an eye out in future for Hafod Cheese. |
| At the end of a very enjoyable and an informative day we thanked Beccy for welcoming us and taking us on a tour of the farm and Iona for arranging the farm visit. Let's hope that we get a chance to visit a farm again in the near future. | |

Nature Studies in the Infants Class
The Infants Class was very busy this month. Pupils went out of school for nature walks to collect various items to bring back to school.
The girls look very pretty in their nature hats - they could start a new fashion. I wonder where the boys went to hide from the camera!

After enjoying a nature walk, there is a great deal of work to be done studying and arranging the leaves, not to mention searching for the small creatures amongst the leaves.

It was impossible to avoid all the blackberries so they just had to be collected. But, what next? |
![]() |
| Well blackberry crumble of course. So, the all-important task commenced with everyone wanting to contribute. |

Fair play to the budding chefs - they shared the delicious crumble with everyone else in school- and very tasty it was too!

Safety and Re-cycling Road Show
Pupils and staff looked forward to the safety and re-cycling road show that visited school. Pupils and staff from Cilcennin School joined us for the event. Below are photographs of the official performers, guest performers and the pupils.

As soon as the naughty brothers appeared on stage the entertaining commenced and carried on non-stop, wih many important messages delivered at the same time. |

Fair play to the Gregory Brothers for helping this poor bewildered grandmother. Grandad seems to be much more of a catch - there's probably a lot of demand for his company around the country. |

The Gregory Brothers diplayed many examples of re-cyclable rubbish. Perhaps it's of no worth to the thrower but could be very useful to someone else. |

Well! Well! Someone's grown recently. I doubt that this pretty little cardigan will fit you again. Why don't you re-cycle it? It might be just the thing for another young man. |

| "Rhowch y rhaw o dan y baw, rhowch y baw yn y bin," were the words of the song encouraging dog owners to clear up after their dogs whilst out and about. | Whilst out cycling the importance of wearing a helmet was stressed - after all we want to keep those lovely brains intact. | ||

Pupils in the Junior class were invited to Llansantffraed Church for a presentation on the Holy Week by Mrs. Wendy Morgan. Reverend Julian Smith welcomed us to the church. Then Mrs. Morgan took us on a tour of the church whilst presenting information on Christianity's most important festival. The children were very interested and responded well by asking relevant questions. Diolch yn fawr Mrs. Morgan.

Healthy Eating - and it's delicious too!
Miss Amy Jones, Healthy Schools' Co-ordinator joined us for an afternoon of cooking. First of all we considered the food groups and why each type of food was needed then we placed the food items in the appropriate groups. Some of the foods belonged to more than one group so we had to discuss and decide which was the most suitable group for one or two food items.
![]() |
![]() |
We thoroughly enjoyed the practical session of preparing the foods. By the end, of the afternoon we had a feast ready and waiting to be eaten. Then came the proof of the pudding...... and we enjoyed proving that we had prepared a delicious selection of foods - as you will see below.

Developing the School Yard
A group of parents have started on the latest stage of our project to develop the school yard. A paintbrush, can ofpaint ad some old clothes were the requirements for the job in hand - together with a sackful of enthusiasm. The pupils are already excited at the prospect of following paths all over the yard. Let's hope for a fine, sunny summer so that the we have a colourful and entertaining yard by September.
Re-cycling Clothes
Pupils, staff and parents decided it would be a good idea to re-cycle old clothes whilst at the same time raising funds for the school. Quite a bit of re-arranging and weeding out less-used clothes went on in the area and bags of clothes were put together for the company bag2school. The bags were collected and brought to school to be taken and passed on for re-sale and re-cycling. We intend to repeat the activity next term so if you're interested in re-cycling clothes that are un-damaged and fit to be worn again keep an eye on our website news page.

School Trip
The end of the summer term is nigh and high time for our annual trip. All puils travelled to Pembrokeshire for the day. Pupils in the Junior Class spent the day at Canastan Bowling Centre and the Blue Lagoon. Both pupils and staff enjoyed as much as each other and the peace and quiet on the way home on the us was proof that everyone was well and truly tired. Below are some pictures of us playing ten-pin bowling.

Unfrtunately, we were having far too much fun in the swimming pool and on the various slides to take pictures at the Blue Lagoon.
Pupils in the Infants Department enjoyed a day at Folly Farm. Photographs will follow soon.
