Clwb Hwyl y Plant After School Care Club:
Clwb Hwyl y Plant, the after school care club commenced shortly after the start of term. The club runs from Mondays to Fridays, from 3:30p.m. until 5:30p.m. The children enjoy attending the club and participating in a range of entertaining activities.
New Students:
We welcome students to school this term. Miss Anna Sturrock will be in the junior class daily until half term whilst Mr. Curtis Lewis will be in the Infants class on Mondays and Tuesdays this term.

Year Bridging 6 :
Year 6 pupils spent the day at Aberaeron Comprehensive School. The theme for the day was Let's Get Creative. The pupils enjoyed the Music, Drama and Art activities.
Local History:
Pupils and staff were pleased to welcome Mrs. Dowse to school on Monday, December 7th. Mrs. Dowse gave a presentation on life in Llannon during her childhood and later. It was very interesting to hear of the various businesses that used to exist in the village. We are very grateful to Mrs. Dowse for her time and for giving such an interesting presentation.
Gair am Air:
Arad Goch Children's Theatre in Education visited school on Thursday morning, December 10th. Pupils in the Infants Department enjoyed the performance and the following workshop.
Merched y Wawr Carol Service:
On Sunday, December 13th, the carol service organised by Merched y Wawr was held in the Village Hall. Pupils in both the Junior and Infants Department presented items during the service.
The School Christmas Concert:
On Monday evening, December 14th,the school Christmas concert was supported by an array of family and friends. The evening began with a presentation of the nativity by the Infants Department. This was followed by a Christmas Fashion Show by the Junior Class. The audience enjoyed the presentations and the children were congratulated on their performance.
A Visit to the Church:
On Tuesday morning, December 15th, pupils in the Junior Class walked to Llansanffraed church for a special Biblical presentation of the first Christmas by Mrs. Wendy Morgan. The information was given step by step in different areas of the church. By the end of the presentation, everyone was dressed in outfits relating to the first Christmas and had returned to the altar. Pupils had the opportunity to compare the popular versions of the Christmas story with the excerpts from the Bible. It was a very interesting and informative morning that ended with refreshments that the pupils and staff enjoyed. This provided everyone with enough energy to walk back up to school.
Pentref Bach:
Following an early lunch on Tuesday, December 15th, pupils and staff of the Infants Class travelled to Pentre Bach to meet Father Christmas. They all had a very good time and returned to school with a present each.
Christmas Dinner:
Our cook, Mrs. Lionel, prepared a delicious roast turkey dinner for the pupils and staff on Wednesday, December 16th. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Pupils took the opportunity to give Mrs. Kath Lionel and Miss Marilyn Morgan three cheers for preparing lunch and looking after them during the lunch hour all year.
Christmas Party:
The Christmas Party was arranged for the last Thursday of term. We all had a terrific afternoon with everyone in the best of spirits. The afternoon started with the pupils playing a variety of traditional party games. This was followed by a feast of delicious foods provided by the parents. The children ate and ate and ate. To end the afternoon we were delighted to welcome Father Christmas to school and he was as generous as ever distributing presents amongst all the pupils and staff. Beaming pupils left the school at the end of the afternoon.
Willow tunnels:
Mr. Andrew Roberts visited school on Friday, December 18th to give a presentation to the Junior Class on willow trees and the various structures that can be formed by training the trees. Pupils studied plans and photographs before going outside to measure and discuss ideas for the area. A general plan for planting willow trees was drawn up for planting trees in February. If the weather is suitable, we intend, with the support of parents and friends of the school, to prepare the ground and plant willow trees during the week before half term holiday.
End of term:
Friday 18th December was the last day of term. We wished everyone a happy and contented Christmas.

Welcome:
We welcome Amber to Year 1, Taylor to Year 2 and Shane to Year 4 and hope that they will be very happy at Llannon School.
Urdd Swimming Gala:
Pupils in Years 3 - 6 enjoyed taking part in the Urdd Swimmimg Gala at Plascrug Leisure Centre on Thursday, November 5th. Congratulations to Owen Jones who came second in the butterfly race for Years 3 and 4.
Visit to Hafan yr Efail:
On November 2nd pupils in the Junior Class spent the morning cooking various food items to take to Hafan yr Efail in the afternoon. DVDs of the recent parachute jumps were shown to the residents and other members of the community before tea and cakes were served.
Puppet Theatre Performance:
Pupils in year 4 and below enjoyed a presentation of "Clustiau March" by the Puppet Theatre on Tuesday, November 10th. We were joined by pupils from Cilcennin and Myfennydd schools.
Supporting Ty Hafan:
Mr. Phil Thomas visited school on Wednesday, November 11th and spoke to the children about Ty Hafan. Pupils were very interested in learning about this facility for children who are very poorly. Members of the School Council presented Mr. Phil Thomas with a cheque for £50 which was raised during the collection at the Harvest Thanksgiving Service shortly before half term holiday.
Children in Need:
Pupils decided to wear their pyjamas to school to raise money for Children in Need - which saved both time and effort in getting ready for school on the day. £50 was raised through various donations by pupils and staff.
Student teacher:
We welcomed Miss Anne Sturrock, a student teacher from Aberystwyth University, to school. Miss Sturrock who is following a post-graduate course in teaching will be with us for a fortnight and then will return in January for her teaching practice.
An Afternoon at the Pantomime:
On Friday, November 27th, pupils and staff travelled to Theatr y Werin to see the pantomime Barti Ddu.

Lessons in French:
Pupils in Years 4 and 6 thoroughly enjoyed their first two lessons in French. Mrs. Gwyneth Davies has been presenting the sessions and has a very enthusiastic group that looks forward to her lessons with great anticipation.
Llain Residential Course:
Pupils in the Junior Class enjoyed three days at Llain Residential Outdoor Pursuit Centre. They all took part in a range of activities ranging from team-building activities to more adventurous and challenging activities such as raft building, wall-climbing, abseiling, archery, orienteering, the zip-wire and the assault course. Pupils showed both perseverance and strength of character when facing tough and frightening challenges. Photographs of the children taking part in these activities will soon be accessible via the Activities page and are well worth viewing.
Technology Bridging Day :
The first bridging day for Year 6 pupils at Aberaeron Comprehensive School was a Technology Day. Pupils look forward to the next day which will be held in December.
Road Safety and Recycling Road Show :
The Gregory Brothers Road Safety and Recycling Road Show visited Llannon School and performed a fantastic show for Llannon and Cilcennin pupils. The show both entertained and educated pupils aged 4-11 years old. Safety issues including wearing helmets when cycling, wearing safety belts in vehicles and holding an adult's hand when crossing the road were highlighted. Cleaning up after the dog whilst out for walks, and recycling were also target areas during the highly entertaining musical and visual show. All too soon the show ended but hopefully the key messages will remain.
September News
Welcome:
We extend a warm welcome to everyone to a new academic year. We welcome Miss Emma Lorenz, new Foundation Stage Teacher at Llannon School. Miss Lorenz has already established herself at school and is already proving herself to be a valuable member of the school staff. We also welcome Harry Read to the Reception Class. We also welcome Miss Samantha Davies and Miss Rebecca Sweeney, students from Coleg Ceredigion who are both studying for the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education. Mrs Anwylyd Evans is the new visiting Welsh teacher. We hope that they will all be happy at Llannon School.
Breakfast Club:
A free healthy breakfast is available daily at Ysgol Llannon for all pupils from 8:15am.
After School Clubs:
The Computer Club for year 3 meets every Tuesday afternoon between 3:30 and 4:30pm. For the first few weeks the pupils will be learning how to use the features of the Paint programme. Years 4-6 meet every Tuesday afternoon between 3:30 and 4:30pm and are learning how to create a website.
Urdd Soccer Competition:
A team of football players travelled to Llangrannog to compete in the Aeron Schools Urdd Football Competition. They enjoyed their various games but were not successful in their round.
Visitors:
We received our first visitors to school this on Monday, September 14th when Reverend Julian Smith, our parish vicar accompanied his American guests to school. Feeding the Five Thousand was the theme for the assembly and then each pupil received a gift of a bookmark of the American flag.
Drama Club:
Four pupils attended a drama workshop at Felinfach Theatre on Saturday morning, September 19th. We look forward to receiving information on the arrangements for the rest of the term.
Visit to Bwlchywernen:
The whole school went on a visit to Bwlchywernen Organic Farm near Llangybi, organized by Miss Iona Davies. Pupils enjoyed a nature walk around the perimeter during the morning. After a picnic lunch they were shown around the farmyard, learned about the importance of feeding the dairy herd with good quality natural products and were given an exhibition of how Hafod cheese is made at the farm. Most of the children accepted a small cube of Hafod cheese to taste. Pupils across the school were kept interested throughout the day and asked many questions. All too soon, it was time to leave and we bade farewell before beginning our return journey to school. We thank the family at Bwlchywernen for their welcome.
Blackberries Galore:
During a nature walk along Cwm Cledan, pupils in the Infants Class were attracted to the ripe and tasty blackberries and wanted to go blackberry picking. A Blackberry Walk was arranged and the children picked enough for a cookery session. Many eager hands joined in to make blackberry crumble – enough for themselves, the Junior Class and the staff. Everyone enjoyed the ensuing taster session. Thank you to the budding cooks.
Starter Lessons in French:
Pupils in Years 4-6 will receive a series of lessons in French during this term. Mrs. Gwyneth Davies will be presenting these sessions.
Music Lessons:
Pupils in Year 3 have started receiving violin lessons as part of the school’s music initiative. Mrs. Kathy Owen is the violin teacher. At the same time, pupils in Years 4-6 receive recorder lessons.
Outdoor Developments:
Ysgol Llannon is continuing to develop their school grounds in order to create a stimulating outdoor learning environment. Hafan Fach, the second phase, which was to create a quiet natural area at the front of the school to include a full sized boat, pagoda, benches and a new garden has been completed and the first stage of the third phase of creating an area for Key stage 2 pupils at the rear of the school has also been completed. Pupils now have access to the enclosed green area, Llecyn ar y Bryn.
Coffee Morning:
A Coffee Morning was held at the school hall on Saturday morning, September 19th. It was lovely to see the school's faithful supporters and new faces as well as a number of parents who co-operated to ensure the success of the morning. Visitors were guided around the outside of the school to see the latest developments in the children's play areas.
Sponsored Parachute Jumps:
On September the 20th, two parents and the headteacher completed parachute jumps to raise money for the Playground Appeal. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the Parents, Teachers and Friends of the School Association by sponsoring the school's three parachutists. Anyone wishing to support the appeal may send a cheque to the PTFA at school or contact staff at school directly. Photos of the venture are on display via the Special Events Page. The page is updated regularly.
Cylch Ti a Fi:
A bilingual area ‘Cylch Ti a Fi / Parent & Toddler Group’ is held at Ysgol Llannon’s hall each Wednesday afternoon between 2:00pm and 3:25pm. The weekly fee is £1. If you are interested in attending you can turn up on the day or for further information you may contact the school on 01974 202 478.

Cylch Aeron Cricket Championships:
The Junior Class took part in the Cylch Aeron Cricket Championships on Wednesday, July 1st. One team reached the semi-finals but were beaten by Aberaeron who then went on to the finals. Pupils in both teams had a great day out and developed their cricket skills whilst also enjoying the socialising aspect of the day.
One World Day:
Pupils in the Junior Class spent Friday, July 3rd at Aberaeron Comprehensive School taking part in various activities to promote One World Day. Each group thoroughly enjoyed their activities.
Governors' Visit:
On Wednesday, July 8th we received visits by the school governors who sat in on the day's lessons, spoke to the children and looked at their work. It was an interesting day for all involved.
Ghana Presentation:
Miss Nia Jones, Aberaeron, gave a presentation to the Junior Class on her visit last summer to Ghana. The pupils had been learning about Fairtrade during the term, involving projects in Ghana. Nia spoke about the efforts of villagers to improve their own lives and the lives of their children. Pupils and staff were surprised that after finishing teaching each day Nia had to help lay the foundations for an extension to the village school and lunch was not part of the daily routine. Everyone found the presentation interesting and informative. Thank you Nia for your time.
Annual School Trip:
On Friday, July 10th, we all went o our annual school trip. This year we travelled to Pembrokeshire. Pupils in the Infants Class spent the day at Folly Farm and had many tales to tell about the animals they had seen and who nearly became lunch to some of them. Pupils in the Junior Class enjoyed a session playing ten-pin bowling at Canastan Centre before travelling a few hundred metres down the road to the Blue Lagoon where they enjoyed nearly three hours of non-stop fun using the fun pool and slides. Even the teachers had a thoroughly fun-filled day.
Staff Changes:
We congratulate Mr. Chris Newcombe on his appointment as Head of the Foundation Stage at Ysgol Gynradd Plascrug. He will commence his new post at the beginning of September. We thank Mr. Newcombe for his contribution to education at Llannon School during the last five years and wish him well in his future. We wish you the best of luck and good fortunes Mr. Newcombe.
A new teacher has been appointed to the Foundation Stage at Ysgol Llannon. Congratulations to Miss Emma Lorenz on her appointment and we look forward to welcoming Miss Lorenz to school in September.

Rwtsh Ratsh Rala Rwdins Show:
Pupils in the Infants Class travelled to Aberystwyth to see Rwtsh Ratsh Rala Rwdins Show - a show based on a popular children's series of books. They all returned having enjoyed themselves and full of praise.
Personal Helath Presentation:
Nurse Heather Whalley visited school to give a presentation on growing up to pupils in Years 5 and 6. As always, by the end of the session the children were well-informed and had been given plenty of opportunities to ask questions or talk about any issues of concern to them. Nurse Heather always inspires the children to talk openly and in a mature manner about whichever themes are being covered.
Welcoming New Pupils:
At the beginning of the month we welcomed two new pupils to school. Anwen and Gareth have both settled down very well and become popular members of their classes.
Digital Story Workshop:
On June 1st, Mr. Tim Davies visited school to help pupils in Years 5 and 6 start their digital story projects. Within minutes all the pupils were inspired and eager to get going on their individual tasks. Their stories will soon be on the Pupils' Page.
Cylch Aeron Schools Rounders' Championship:
Mrs. Helen Jones took the rounders team to Aberaeron Hockey Fields to compete in the Cylch Aeron Rounders Competition. Everyone played well and did their best.
Bag2School:
On June 16th the front of the school resembled a recycling centre as bags upon bags were delivered by parents and friends of the school. The school was taking part in bag2school which is a project to re-cycle used clothes that are in a good condition whilst at the same time raising funds for the school. We were very well supported, collecting a terrific 1415kg of clothes. We hope to repeat this event in October and anyone who requires bags should contact Llannon School towards the end of September.

Photographer Louise Noakes visited school on June 23rd to take individual, family, class and school photos. We expect to receive these photos before the end of term.
Urdd Centre, Cardiff:
Five pupils in Years 5 and 6, accompanied by Mr. Newcombe, spent three days in Cardiff. They were based in the Millennium Centre and visited many attractions in the area. Some photos are to be found on the Activities page.

Welcoming a New Pupil:
We welcomed Zara to Year 5 shortly after the Easter holidays. Zara, who always has a smile on her face, is a welcome addition to the class.
Cylch Aeron Schools Sports Day :
On May 20th, pupils took part in the cylch Aeron Sports Day. Everyone competed and did their best and several were very successful. Well done one and all.
Taster Days :
On May 19th, pupils in Year 6 spent the day at Aberaeron Comprehensive School. This day involved the pupils having a taste of lessons in the Secondary School. Before the end of term, they will spend another four days at the school on bridging activities. This is a very exciting experience for all pupils concerned.
A Visit by Mr. Roger Thomas :
We welcomed Mr. Roger Thomas, from the Salvation Army, to school on Friday, May 22nd. He presented an interesting assembly on the Good Samaritan keeping the attention of all pupils in the cluster schools throughout the presentation. Thank you Mr. Thomas for your regular visits to Llannon School.

Welcome:
We would like to welcome Mr. Ben Beard and Miss Alisa Lloyd, two trainee teachers from Aberystwyth University who will be completing their final teaching practice at Ysgol Llannon during the summer term. We also welcome three new pupils to the Infants Department, namely Ioan Harcombe, Roscoe Lloyd and Ollie Jones. They have already experienced taster sessions at Llannon School and are now starting on their full time education.
Cross-Country Races:
Pupils in the Junior class took part in the Aeron Schools Cross Country Races and had an enjoyable time. Pupils who came in the first ten in each race will complete at county level during the summer term.
Bobby Busters Success:
Congratulations to the Year 6 team on winning the Ceredigion Bobby Busters Quiz for schools under 50 pupils. Mrs. Helen Jones travelled with the team to Coedybryn School for the competition. The team enjoyed the morning and were grateful to receive a variety of fruits to eat during the quiz. They were delighted with their own success as was the rest of the school. Very well done.

Visit to Pentre Bach
Pupils in the Infants class enjoyed a visit to Pentre Bach on March 6th to celebrate World Book Day.
Healthy Schools Visit
On Friday, March 13th, pupils from the cluster schools participated in workshops led by School Nurse, Mrs. Heather Whalley and Schools' Police Liaison Officer, P.C. Jackie Stevenson. The workshops covered the themes Medicines and Drugs.
Bobby Busters' Success
On Monday, March 16th, Year 6 pupils participated in the local round of the Bobby Busters Quiz. They performed very well and will represent the area in the next round which will be held on April 27th. We congratulate them on their success so far and wish them well in the next round.
Healthy Packed Lunches
Pupils in Years 2 - 6 enjoyed an afternoon of preparing healthy foods for packed lunches and picnics on Monday afternoon, March 16th. Groups of pupils prepared savoury courgette and bacon muffins, pizza, lunch box wraps, fruit muffins and fruit salad. Everyone co-operated in their groups and at the end of the session each pupil had a selection of tasty, healthy foods to take home.
The School Eisteddfod
This year our school eisteddfod was held on Wednesday, March 18th. We were joined by many parents and friends of the school for a day of healthy competition, with every pupil performing in front of a supportive audience. The judges, Mr and Mrs. Jeff and Rhiannon Lewis, were kept busy all day and we appreciate their willingness to carry out the important task of adjudicating the various competitions.. We congratulate every pupil on their achievements on the day and in the class competitions. Cledan were victorious and the Argoed shield was presented to captains Gethin Morgan and Ashley Butler. Gethin Morgan won the Cadwgan chair for the best piece of written work and Owen Jones won the Dolgoed cup for gaining the highest number of individual points.
Soccer Championships:
Two teams of footballers took part in the Aeron Schools Soccer Championships at Abereron Playing Fields. Everyone had a good time until rain stopped play.
Adran yr Urdd:
Rhydian Jenkins, Ceredigion’s Deputy Urdd Development Officer visited Ysgol Llannon on Tuesday March 24th to lead a session of Adran yr Urdd. Pupils enjoyed the ‘curling’ activities and look forward to Rhydian visiting us again soon.

A warm welcome
Pupils and staff at Ysgol Llannon welcomed Mrs. Elizabeth Cyffin-Roberts to school. Mrs. Cyffin-Roberts has been appointed as a temporary teacher to cover Mrs. Nerys Southgate during her period of maternity leave. We hope that Mrs. Roberts will be very happy in our midst. We also congratulate the Southgate family on the birth of Ceinwen Eira.
Arad Goch:
The Arad Goch Theatre Company visited Ysgol Llannon on Friday, February 6th, to perform ‘Dros y Garreg’ to pupils in the Foundation Phase from the cluster of schools. Everyone enjoyed the performance.
Netball:
The school’s Netball Team competed in the Aeron District Netball Competition at Aberaeron on Thursday February 12th. Congratulations to each member of the team.
Eisteddfod Dihewyd:
Congratulations to Megan Harris (Year 6) for coming second in a handwriting competition at ‘Dihewyd Eisteddfod’ and to Ashley Butler (Year 6) for coming fourth in the same competition.
Fair Trade:
As part of our Eco-schools scheme, Ysgol Llannon is supporting the Fair Trade Foundation and working towards Fair Trade School Status. This year, the school supported ‘Fair Trade Fortnight’ which was held between February 23rd and March 6th. Pupils and staff learned about Fair Trade, used Fair Trade ingredients in the cookery club and were served Fair Trade bananas for lunch as part of Banana Bonanza!
Shrove Tuesday:
Pupils and staff enjoyed the experience of cooking pancakes in our Pupil’s Kitchen on Shrove Tuesday and especially enjoyed eating them!
Adran yr Urdd:
Adran yr Urdd meets each Tuesday afternoon between 3:30 and 4:30. Pupils have recently competed in ‘A Question of Sport’ and will soon have a bingo session.
QUIZ NIGHT:
Ysgol Llannon’s ‘Parents, Teachers and Friends of the School Association’ held a Quiz Night which was open to the public at the White Swan Public House, Llannon on the evening of Saturday March 7 at 7:30pm. The proceeds went towards the school’s Playground Development Appeal.

Following a discussion, pupils in the Junior Class asked for the following after-school clubs to be held this term:
Adran yr Urdd - Tuesday afternoons
Clwb Coginio - Wednesday afternoons.
Merched y Gerddi Performance
Arad Goch Children's Theatre in Education presented 'Merched y Gerddi' at school on Friday January 16th. Theis performance was for pupils in Years 5 and 6 and pupils from Llannon, Pennant and Cilcennin schools, as well as the staff, enjoyed the performance very much. This was followed with a short workshop. As always, the pupils had a valuable experience.
Celebrating the Village Hall's Fortieth Anniversary
The village hall was crowded on Saturday, January 10th for the 40th anniversary concert. The concert was organised to include items by Llannon School pupils, Pennant and Llanddeiniol Young Farmers' Clubs and the world famous harpist from Llannon, Catrin Finch.
Mr. Lodwig Lloyd, Adsolwen welcomed everyone to the concert followed by Miss Buddug Lloyd reading a poem written for the opening of the hall.
Pupils from the village school came to the stage to perform their items. Pupils in the Infants' Class began by performing a band item based on rhythms and beat. Ieuan Paske and Gethin Morgan showed their musical talents whilst performing three pieces on the clarinet. Pupils in Years 2-6 gave a presentation on traditions of the New Year. To end their contribution, all pupils sang to the traditional melody Bing Bong a song with words written especially for the anniversary by Miss Nerys Thomas. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed singing to the accompaniment of Catrin Finch on the harp and will, doubtless, remember the experience for a long time.
Llanddeinol Young Farmers' Club performed a very entertaining presentation to the 'The Muppets' theme that was enjoyed by everyone form the youngest to the more senior members of the audience. Well done and congratulations.
Pennant Young Farmers' Club entertained the audience with a Sixties Fashion Show and it soon became apparent that many of those present remembered (perhaps a little too well) wearing similar items of clothing. Quite possibly, there are many such items in local wardrobes. Congratulations to the models and presenters for their contribution.
Catrin was given a very warm welcome back to Llannon. As soon as she started performing all eyes were on her. The children were enchanted watching her hands dance across the harp strings and everyone gave Catrin their complete attention as she played various pieces. It was lovely to hear Catrin speaking so naturally and un-assuming and a privilige to hear her playing the harp fantastically. We look forward to her next visit.
The president of the evening was Mr. Leslie Lewis, Birmingham House, and he gave a short speech. Gethin Morgan presented a bouquet to Catrin Finch and Zoe Hutton presented a bouquet to Mrs. Lewis. This was an entertaining and successful evening.
