Llannon School is an open-plan county Primary School that caters for children from 4-11 years of age.

The primary aim when a child starts at this school is that he/she is happy as we believe that it is in a happy and homely environment that a child will perform best at this age.

The staff have been trained to teach primary aged children, are very experienced in primary education, attend relevant training courses regularly and provide a broad and balanced curriculum.

The school aims to ensure the social development of your child by encouraging him/her to build healthy relationships with other children and adults in the school.

We will encourage your child to work to the best of his/her ability and support him/her in the development of individual talents. We endeavour to ensure that each child works at a level and rate that will enable him/her to reach his/her full potential. If a child requires additional support, arrangements will be made after consultation and with the support of the parent(s). Each child will be encouraged to feel proud in their achievements and to develop a high level of self-esteem.

A child’s primary education is a very important stage of development and we will do our best, as staff, to ensure that your child is happy, is making good progress within his/her ability and takes part in extra-curricular activities at this school.

Education for the Under-Fives

When a child starts school at the age of four, a wide variety of cross-curricular activities is provided that will develop his/her skills within the following areas :

By providing activities and tasks within the areas noted above, firm foundations for the child’s early education at school are set in readiness for the next step.

Key Stage 1

During this stage, we build on previous education. The emphasis is on developing the essential skills, namely Communication, Literacy and Numeracy. By providing a rich and extensive curriculum through an integrated approach, we aim to develop the children’s interests whilst acknowledging also their level of maturity. These years, when children learn by observing, listening, responding and developing, not only as individuals but also as caring members of the community, are important.

Key Stage 2

During this stage, essential skills such as Communication, Literacy and Numeracy continue to form the focus of the curriculum. But, as understanding of the disciplines develop, more time will be allocated to science and the other subjects. The curriculum will continue to be taught within integrated themes whenever that is meaningful and relevant.

The children are encouraged to develop self-confidence, independence of learning and higher-order skills in various situations.

7. SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

The school has a Special Educational Needs policy. If a teacher believes that a child needs additional support to what is provided in the class, the parents will be invited to school to discuss the matter. In the same manner, a parent may ask for an appointment to discuss any worries in this area.

8. EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Within the school, every effort is made to try and ensure that each child receives the same opportunities as his/her peers, whatever the ability, sex or background. The school’s Equal Opportunities Policy is available at school for inspection.

9. SCHOOL VISITS

The children enjoy visiting places and learn from personal experiences. The school has a programme of visits that support  specific areas of the curriculum.

10. HEALTH AND SAFETY

When children arrive at school, the teachers take the role of “loco parentis”. We endeavour to keep the school site and resources in a condition that is safe for everyone and the children have specific rules to follow for their own safety and that of others.

11. LINKS WITH THE COMMUNITY

The school is eager to keep and develop links with the community. The community is invited to events at school and the school accepts invitations for the children to perform when there are events in the village. Members of the community are invited to speak to the children at school and the children visit sites in the village. When the Parents, Teachers and Friends of the School organize events, they rely on the generous support of local businesses and individuals.

12. SCHOOL MEALS

Nutritious school lunches are prepared daily in the school kitchen. Summer and winter menus are distributed as soon as we receive them. The breakfast club starts at 8:15a.m.
